The California Bodysurf Freakout
The California Bodysurf Freakout was a photo challenge that ran from Sept. 1 to Dec. 15, 2020 and raised funds for victims of the CZU August Lightning Complex fires.
The Winners:
Wave of the Season: Mark Drewelow and Steve Cummings
Best Barrel: James Prola and Tavahi Matairea Owen
Biggest Wave: Eric Gustafson, Sachi Cunningham, and Thelo Aiken
Best Maneuver: Pat Malo and Cooper Emanuel
Best Handboard Wave: Hannah Van Veen and James Prola

The Rules:
Winning photos must be taken within the State of California between Sept. 1 and Dec. 15, 2020.
$20 submission fee (unlimited number of photos) paid via PayPal to bodysurfsantacruz@gmail.com. Online payment only. 100% of proceeds will be donated to victims of the California wildfires.
All photos must be emailed by midnight Dec. 15 to bodysurfsantacruz@gmail.com with the date of the ride, the category, plus the names of both the photographer and bodysurfer. Do not identify surf spot.
Photos will be posted and judging will be crowdsourced via the Instagram account @BodysurfFreakout.
Winning submissions will be announced on New Year’s Day 2021.
Winners receive a token prize and a ton of respect.
Whoever came up with this is not liable for anything. This isn’t even a thing. I don’t know what you’re talking about. Always surf within your limits.
